 What started as a simple response to a call for help grew into the Global Nurse Network—a vision to connect expert nurses with practicing nurses across the globe. 

Building sustainability takes expertise, resources, funding, dedication, advocacy, and a lot of hard work. But as Margaret Mead reminded us, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” 

  My last visit to Uganda was in March 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic began. Although there was fear and uncertainty, we stayed until every staff member at Whisper’s was certified in American Heart Association BLS CPR and trained to confidently use the Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS)—a tool that later proved to save lives.
